Anniversary Gala Performance in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall

The US premiere of The Children’s Monologues features an all-star cast performing groundbreaking stories of young children growing up in Africa, adapted for the stage by some of the world’s finest playwrights. In addition to this growing list of international talent, students from Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute will perform music throughout the performance. Simultaneously in Rammolutsi township, South Africa, the young people behind the monologues will perform them for their own community.

The all-star cast includes Jason Alexander, McKinley Belcher III, Jessica Chastain, Common, Daveed Diggs, Andrew Garfield, 

Anne Hathaway, Daniel Kaluuya, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, James McAvoy, Audra McDonald, Sienna Miller, Javier Muñoz, 

Trevor Noah, Susan Sarandon, Sebastian Stan, Lakeith Stanfield and Catherine Zeta-Jones

 

With Special Musical Guests: Cynthia Erivo, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Little Simz, Esperanza Spalding

The net proceeds from this event benefit Dramatic Need and Carnegie Hall, providing critical support to Dramatic Need’s mission of helping vulnerable children in Africa, and Carnegie Hall’s mission of fostering the future of music through artistic, education, and social impact initiatives.

The Children's Monologues debuted at London's Old Vic Theatre in 2010, and was revived at the Royal Court Theatre in 2015 and the Market Theatre, Johannesburg in 2016. Contributing writers over four productions have included Sir David Hare, Sir Tom Stoppard, Lynn Nottage, Jack Thorne, Laura Wade and Dennis Kelly. Performers that have graced the Monologues stage under the direction of Danny Boyle include Sir Ben Kingsley, Nicole Kidman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Robert Whitehead, Eddie Redmayne, Chi Mhende, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gregory Mqoba.
