There are several direct flights from London to Johannesburg every day. British Airways, South African Airways and Virgin Atlantic are all reputable carriers. Booked a few months in advance, return tickets can usually be purchased for around �700, although it is possible to get cheaper deals also. Johannesburg's Oliver Tambo Airport is the closest major airport to both the Free State and North West Province.

How volunteers get to their particular school is very much an individual consideration. We will co-ordinate most of your essential travel within South Africa. Most schools will be at least four hours travel from Johannesburg and getting there will usually involve a bus ride or two. We discourage volunteers from hiring cars during their stay, both because of the cost, but primarily because it separates volunteers from the community (see Getting Around section).
