1/ Introduction to Volunteering.

We send volunteers from the creative arts to some of the most challenged communities in South Africa and Rwanda to help children living through terrible hardships learn artistic skills and find a creative voice. Conducting workshops in schools, teaching art, drama, film-making and music, volunteers help radically change the lives of underprivileged kids, giving them an outlet to express their emotions in a creative form, and better face the challenges in their lives.

 

Volunteers will each spend time at two to four of the 19 schools that Dramatic Need partners with. The closest airport to Dramatic Need’s South African programmes is the Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.The closest airport to Dramatic Need’s Rwandan programme is Kigali International Airport in Kigali.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

There are four application deadlines for volunteers to South Africa throughout the year:

 

  1. For travel to South Africa between 12 January - 1 April, the application deadline: December 1st(the previous year).

  2. For travel to South Africa between 11 April and 24 June, the application deadline: March 1st

  3. For travel to South Africa between 18 Jul and 30 September, the application deadline: June 1st

  4. For travel to South Africa between 10 October and 13 December, the application deadline: September 1st

  5. The following dates are public holidays in South Africa and we strongly recommend you do not volunteer during these times: April 2-11, June 25- July 18, October 1-10, December 14- January 19.

There are also four application deadlines for volunteers to Rwanda throughout the year:
 
  1. For travel to Rwanda between January 4 and February 12, the application deadline: November 25th (the previous year)
  2. For travel to Rwanda between February 22 and March 26, the application deadline: January 20.
  3. For travel to Rwanda between April 12 and June 30, the application deadline: February 20For travel to Rwanda between September 6 and October 22, the application deadline: July 10
  4. For travel to Rwanda between November 1 and December 17, the application deadline: September 25
  5. The following dates are public holidays in Rwanda and we strongly recommend you do not volunteer during these times:February 12-22, March 26-April 12, June 30- September 6, October 22- November 1, December 17- February 12.
